Whitney Houston... My Tribute to a Beautiful Voice

Growing up in the late 80's and early 90's, there were only two singers I distinctly remember listening to- Debbie Gibson and WHITNEY HOUSTON.

Whitney Houston had a profound effect on me, in a sense that every line she sings in her songs just makes me want to be a diva, too. I remember wanting so badly to touch those high notes. I was never able to. And this morning, I woke up to very devastating news- she was found dead.

The shock, the pain, the memories, the disappointment of it all...

However, it had always been me to celebrate the life of anyone who left rather than wallowing in their death. Their end is theirs to face. Their legacy is for us to celebrate them by. And so, I share with you some of my favorite Whitney Houston songs.

RUN TO YOU

I first heard this song on the radio and instantly fell in love with it. A few weeks later I saw it in the movie, The Bodyguard. At 8 years old, I was never able to decipher the true meaning of the lyrics but loved it nonetheless, because despite of my lack of wisdom on the song, the melody speaks of hope, love, and longing. When time came I finally understood the words, I loved it even more.

I HAVE NOTHING

This song I first encountered on the movie The Bodyguard. But I fell in love with it when I was already in high school. The lyrics just speak to my being. I have nothing if I don't have you... It still speaks to me to this day.

DIDN'T WE ALMOST HAVE IT ALL

It never fails to leave me in awe every time I listen to this song. Oh, how she wondrously sings this song! The power of her voice just blows you off the handle. Everyone can say this to all of her songs in fact, but for me, it is in this particular one that she leaves me breathless even just by listening to it.

And lastly,

ALL THE MAN THAT I NEED

I long to dedicate this song to the man I will marry someday.
And I know I will be able to... :)

Many hearts were broken today because of the passing of Whitney Houston. But through her songs, we can forever re-live and regale in the wondrous voice of an angel, who once graced and shared with us her talent, and inspired us to dream, to hope, and to love

Rest in Peace Whitney Houston...

Love Lots,

Yen
