I Fear Wrinkles. So I Do Something About it.

It's never been a secret how I'm utterly scared of having wrinkles or sagging skin. I guess it's me fearing old age and the underlying factors that come along with it. Simply put, I am dreading the fact that I'm not young anymore as soon as the wrinkle appears.

As shallow as this reason seem to be, but I believe no girl can ever deny fearing the realization that youth had already passed on her. This is why others resolve to botox and going under the knife. As for me, nah, I'd welcome the wrinkles although not without putting up a fight using an army of anti-aging creams.

Consequently, as early as now, I make it a point to help ease out my fear of weenkles by using products that I believe would help.

For quite a while now, I have been using these...

I've been a fan of St. Ives facial scrubs but this is my first trying out this Renew and Firm variety. It has 'gentle alpha hydroxy and exfoliants'.

Prior to using this St. Ives Skin Firming lotion, I have already finished a bottle of the Renew and Firm variety, which I always forgot to blog about.

Pure Beauty Pomegranate night cream I discovered at Watsons but I forgot to get the day cream. I was a bit apprehensive to get it at first because I didn't know the brand, although the 'antoixidant' factor was persuading me greatly. But the biggest factor that finally convinced me...

...yup, it's made in Korea so I got it.

I'm a sucker for anything made in that peninsula. It's not a fetish. It's just that time and again they have proven how effective their products are. So I just had to try this one.

For now, while the wrinkles are at bay, I guess I will just have to make the most out of my youth. Although sooner or later I'd begin to see those gentle folds around my eyes, I do intend to age gracefully. :D

From Manila and Back! :)

I'm back!

There goes the obligatory greeting whenever one has been away, and back. Harhar. :D

So, I have been on vacation in Manila, with my best friend Cynthia for three weeks. It was a sudden, compulsive, out-of-the blue decision. Jeremy Renner was slated to come to the Philippines for a shoot and so I thought to myself, "Hmn, this is a pretty darn good time to be in Manila, too." And so I booked a flight and went. That's it. End of the story.

Hehe. No, not really. I had something important to do there and it just so happened that Bourne Legacy was shooting at that same period. (I make myself believe this half of the time).

I was so happy I got to be with my bff, seen friends after years, and finish some hanging errands.

I haven't really taken lots of pics the entire time because I got lazy. :( Next time though.

And by the way, I SAW JEREMY RENNER!!! Yeah-huh. *smug face*

It was all worthwhile after all. Got to ogle at him for like 5 minutes and saw him again up close, like 2 feet away, and he waved back at us and said hi. I swear my heart skipped beats that moment. ♥

Yes, I am an avid 'supporter' of Jeremy Renner.
Yes, I went intentionally to the shoot.
Yes, I waited for a few good hours just to get a glimpse of him.
And, no, I didn't get any pictures. It was prohibited in the shoot. I'm obedient like that.

But the memories of him of that day, will be in my mind, my heart, and dreams forevah!

I still get giddy when I think of those moments. Eeeeeehhhhh!!!!!!!!

Food trip: Bubba Gump Shrimp Company Restaurant and Market

Last week, my friends and I had dinner at Bubba Gump in Greenbelt. I was only able to take a few pictures. I am not really fond of seafood but that night it was that or another place I didn't quite like.

What's Going On So Far: Bourne Legacy Shooting and Food!

So, I'm in Manila right now visiting my best friend Cynthia. She missed Christmas back home so I decided to just go to her. I also needed the break so I packed my suitcase and took the next flight out.

Essentially, my friend and I have been keeping up with work while trying to have fun as much as we can. Here's what we did so far.

I missed riding the train in the Metro.

Jeremy Renner is in the country to shoot Bourne Legacy and my first attempt to watch it, I ended up NOT seeing even a shadow of him at all.

This was all I could manage to see- the set. :(

That night, since my other friend, Louver, knew I was disappointed not to get a glimpse of Aaron Cross (Jeremy's character), he took us for dinner at Tender Bob's.

We had the meat platter.

Afterwards we had chocolate dessert at Max Brenner.

I really wish I could see Jeremy Renner before the shooting's done. But regardless, I am having a blast with my friends so it's still okay. :)

Weekend Food Trip: Nonki Japanese Restaurant and Blugre Cafe with Siblings

My brother and I tried this Japanese restaurant last weekend. It's called Nonki and it's located in Torres street, Davao city.

The place is cozy and the staff were friendly.

We got Spider roll.

Chicken Tepenyaki.

and Breaded pork.

After dinner we hung out with our sister at Blugre cafe below her office building.

They have the best Blueberry cheesecake I have had so far.

Review: Avon Glimmersticks

Here's another quick review of Avon cosmetics.

I recently got Avon Glimmersticks eyeliners.

These eyeliners are retractable, much like lipsticks.

Sorry for the blurry picture. Yikes.

I got one in Blackest Black...

And, Cosmic brown.

Here are the swatches.

Pros:

Affordable
Stays on long
A bit opaque
Doesn't smudge

Cons:

Isn't really creamy
A bit opaque

These eyeliners are okay since they do register on the lids despite not being that creamy or opaque. In fact, I like how they enhance my eyes and not make them look too dramatic. Unless of course you want dramatic eyes, which is best for night time, then you should use other creamy liners like Urban Decay and Milani.

I say these eyeliners are best used for daytime, when you want to emphasize your eyes but not overpower it. :)

Haul: Pouches for Travel Organization

Yesterday, my friend and I went to our local department store and we saw these heaps of pouches on sale. They were quite dusty but nevertheless pretty still AND very useful. I wanted to hoard some but decided to just get 5.

I thought of using them for traveling because they'd be perfect for organizing my makeup, toiletries, and whatnot.

First, let me show you the little ones that I bought.

These two cost 29 pesos each.

I'd use them as vanity kit for very basic makeup.

For example, I was able to fit these stuffs in one of the pouches.

A pack of medicine, a small hand gel, a lipstick, lip balm, face powder, blush, and kabuki brush.

What could be more basic than these, right?

They all fit perfectly!

And the pouch is very handy. It fits inside even my party bag. :)

I also got three larger pouches for... guess how much... 10 pesos each!

I love the floral prints and of course, the price. Hehe.

I will use these three for travel. They'd be perfect to organize makeup, toiletries, undies, and whathaveyou.

These super cheap buys made me really ecstatic yesterday. :D

I feel so girly over these new finds! Just look how flowery and pink they all are! ♥

FOTN: Makeup Looks Over the Holidays

Over the Holidays last year, I was able to put on makeup for Christmas Eve and our Reunion night party. But on New Year's Eve, my family and I opted to just wear our usual pambahay (house clothes).

Our High School Reunion...

The memories we made in high school are ones that we can never forget, and would always want to go back to, regardless of how long it had been since graduation and how old we have become through the years.

Last December 30, 2011 was a nostalgic and happy moment for me and my high school batch mates because we held our high school Grand Reunion.

It has been a decade since we, the Class of 2001, went our separate ways to go to college to achieve our dreams.

I, along with some classmates, had the privilege of organizing this affair and it took us months to accomplish everything.

And on the day, we simply had fun, reminisced, ate, played games, talked, and had fun some more.

High school had been great.

Every one of us had unique experiences but for me, I would not have it any other way.

Make the same friends

Cut the same classes (and some more, if I knew then what I know now, hehe)

Do the same embarrassing things (because when you grow up, you'd laugh at these times, too)

And have crushes/fall in love with the same boys/boy (because when you all grow up, you'd still be friends and love someone else, and your heartache then would be nothing but a simple case of puppy love... hehe).

Our grand reunion is definitely one of the highlights of my 2011.

What I Do When Acne Attacks

When pimples appear on my face, I just freak out. That's because as a teen, my dad used to brainwash me that having pimples means you don't have a good skin hygiene.

Last week, I guess because of stress and months of without using facial scrub (gross, I know), I had pimples. As a solution, I had to make a sudden switch on my skin care regimen. Time and again, I had proven these steps to be effective.

Step. 1 Facial Scrub

I use a facial scrub to remove dead skin cells, oils that stagnated deep within the pores of my skin, and whatever dirt and grimes I have on my face. I make sure not to scrub on the affected area, meaning I go around my 'big' pimples until they dry. I just swish over the smaller ones though.

I just love using St. Ives Apricot Scrub. :)

Step 2. Anti-acne facial cleanser

When it comes to pimples, I only use Eskinol Lemon facial cleanser. It's for acne and it works so so well. I always have this on standby, although on normal days I don't ever use a facial cleanser. I am a soap-and-water kind of gal but you never know when you'll need to remove pimples.

Step 3. Water-based or non-too creamy moisturizer

I find that creamy moisturizers only exacerbate pimples so I only use light or lotion form moisturizers. If not Olay moisturizing lotion, I use Myra E.

These steps are so effective for me that my pimples wilt within 3 days. And if you refer to the picture above, that dark dot below my right eye is the humongous pimple I just had. I had more of them somewhere in there...

I really enjoy this skin care regimen that I think I'll be at it for a while. :)

Here's to zero pimples! But that's almost impossible. :/

Review: Ever Bilena Face Powder in Tan and Avon True Color Blush in Peach

I have been meaning to post about this new discovery of mine but the lighting was just really terrible these past few days (because of the storm, which claimed hundreds of lives in various provinces of my country), so now that the sun is out, I grabbed the chance and took pictures using my laptop cam. I apologize for the bad pictures. :(

Ever Bilena Face Powder in Tan

This product is just, WOW. I can't believe Ever Bilena works so fine like any other imported brands. And I have been ignoring it the entire time! I came across some Filipina Beauty Gurus on Youtube whose been raving about EB products so I decided to try one for myself.

And I wasn't disappointed. AT ALL.

This product is gush-worthy. Deserving of rave. Must have a great review.

I got the refill pack, which costs only Php75.00. The original packaging costs Php125. So affordable right.

I got the color Tan and it suits soooo well with my skin tone. On the next picture, I am wearing the EB face powder on the left side so we could compare it with the right side of my face. The result is amazing.

I wore it to two night outs and it holds up up to 3 hours tops without touch up. I feel so giddy every time I use it. Seriously! One of the most amazing makeup products is just right under my nose this entire time!

Verdict:

Lasts moderately well on the skin
Fine, soft finish

I just love it so much it's my new favorite face powder! :)

Avon True Color Blush in Peach

I needed a new peach blush so I bought this one from Avon. It looks matte on the picture but it really is shimmery but very fine and not at all flashy. I would have wanted a matte one so I could use it at daytime but this will do I guess.

Avon has always been a good quality brand when it comes to cosmetics and this blush is no different.

In this picture I had to wear it thick so it would register on my face. Due to the camera quality it would look white washed if I didn't pack it on too much.

But overall, this blush is great. :)

Perks Of Being An Older Sister

As an ate (big sister), it is a lifetime responsibility to watch over younger siblings and cousins. For us, when going out, I'm the default babysitter. Even during karaoke nights.

But one thing I love about being an ate is that I get to boss these critters around. But surprisingly, my siblings and cousins love having me when they go out. I guess I do pass as a cool older sister. Hehehe.

Yep, I definitely look and feel oldest in the group.

But before I turned 27 I definitely felt I belonged... :D

Added perk of being zee zeester-- I get to crash double dates. BAM! Nyahahaha!

Awkward...

I was dying of laughter during this time but my sinister friend, Mark, talked me into it. :D

Being an older sister is a tough responsibility. But whenever you can, enjoy the fun and rewarding side of it. :D

Review: Avon Face and Eye Makeup Remover

I had this Avon Face and Eye Makeup Remover since September, and I have been meaning to give a review on it sooner, but it wasn't something gush-worthy nor something I can lambaste so I thought better of it.

This product is one of those things that you know works but you just don't want to tell about because it is lacking some... pizzazz or je ne sais quoi.

This makeup remover does the job okay, and it's not the worst of makeup removers, but it's not one of the best either. It removes all the makeup gunk off my face but then it leaves a trail of thin film residue, which is powder-like to some extent, and which is something I don't mind, BUT it would be so much better if it didn't do that.

It's not that bothersome though and I have learned to ignore it. In fact, I don't mind buying this product again.

It's just that, as much as I want to say great things about it, I simply don't feel compelled by its performance.

When A Friend Needs Rescuing...

No matter how strong my best friends are, I still can't help but bend over backwards whenever they're going through a tough time. I just can't bear the thought of them hurting, crying, and feeling helpless in the situation.

So when I got a text from one of my best friends saying that her BF dumped her, I just jumped right in to the next bus to come see her. And when she finally saw me, she just started to cry. It was really heartbreaking to see pain in her eyes. The nerve of the guy! And to think we all liked him for years!

My best friend and I talked over pizza, coffee, and dessert. She felt so much better by dusk. Nothing could ever mend a broken heart faster than some girl talk and sweets. :)

I really wish she gets over him soon. But knowing that she is a strong person, I know she'll be alright in no time...

Weekend Foodtrip: Kim Chi Restaurant in Davao City

Last weekend, my brother, cousin, and I had dinner at Kim Chi, a Korean restaurant in Davao city.

The restaurant provides the side dishes for free. There's an array of it and they were all delicious. And spicy some.

I believe this is fermented cucumber. It's crunchy and mildly sweet and spicy.

Young potato side dish, my favorite in the group.

Tofu coated with eggs. This too is delicious.

Spicy bean sprouts.

The perennial kimchi.

Fruit salad.

Kimbap.

Kimchi Jjigae. This is kimchi soup with pork, tofu, noodles, and veggies. It's sour and mildly spicy.

I can't remember what this was called but it's a beef dish with sesame seeds and noodles. It's the main dish of the night. The beef is so tender it melts in the mouth. As in yum!

If you're in the Davao area and you want a fill of Korean cuisine then look for this restaurant at JP Laurel avenue in Bajada, in front of Victoria Mall. The food is great but the place is more canteen-like than a proper Korean restaurant. The service is pretty awful, too. But, the food is good. :)

My Christmas Haul!

I've been worrying over the past week about my lack of time to get some Christmas shopping done but I finally did it this weekend. Yey! I was able to score some really awesome deals and found nice gifts for my family. :)

I was able to snag things from Celine, What A Girl Wants, Mango, Penshoppe, Bench, Kamiseta, and other shops at the mall. And the best part about it? I didn't go past my budget! Hurrah! I was really happy when I did the tallying. :D

Aside from the gifts, what I got for myself were two tops from What A Girl Wants, mini skirt from Kamiseta, black skinny jeans from Mango, and some tiyangge tops I forgot to take pictures of.

I also got two pairs of shoes from Celine and they were on sale for Php999 for 2 pairs! Funny story about the shoes. I went inside Celine and found throngs of people going crazy over the shoes and I couldn't understand why all these people suddenly wanted shoes so badly!

I really dislike it when I had to squish my way through a crowd so I decided to just leave immediately. But two steps out the door and I spotted their sign that said 'Any 2 Pairs for 999'. And I was like, "What??! Holy molly I HAVE to get back in there!" So I turned and went back inside and I didn't care anymore if I had to push, crane, and tiptoe just to get some awesome shoes!

The store had mirror for walls but because of too many people I literally had to duck and bend just to see my feet's reflection! Hahaha! It was crazy but sooo worth it. :)

What I got were nude peep toe pumps and wedge sandals. :) On my wish list I planned on getting flats but I ended up getting 2 pairs of not-so-flat shoes. Hehehe.

And what made the weekend even more enjoyable was I shopped with my sister and gay cousin. We definitely had an awesome time. :D

Random Thoughts: Some Impressions of The Week

It's a bleak Wednesday afternoon- that's all I could really say about today... It's been gloomy since I woke up but I'm not sure if it rained or not because I slept through the entire morning.

But here are some impressions of the past weeks that I want to share with you. :)

Carbonara I made last week.

I used an instant sauce then added more cream and cheese.

Reading this book.

I don't want to finish it yet because the next book in the series isn't in paperback yet.

I want a uniform collection. That, plus the fact that hardbound is expensive. :)

Breakfast of the late riser.

Woke up at 3pm today and this is what I managed to forage for breakfast.

Missing friends.

It's nearly Christmas and I haven't gotten around to starting my Christmas shopping yet. Eeeep! I need to make time for it or all the good deals with have gone. :(

My 2011 Christmas Wish List

It's Christmas once again and I realized I have never really had a Wish List before. I did have some wishes in the past but I haven't really thought of compiling them on a list. Better late than never so here's my 2011 Christmas Wish List.

1. Marc Jacobs Daisy Perfume

I have tried the rollerball Marc Jacobs Lola perfume and now I want to have the full size Marc Jacobs Daisy.

2. Benetton Sport Woman Eu De Toilette (check)

Got this one already so that's a check. :)

3. Cross-body Bag (check)

I read on the net that for my body type, which is apple body shape, I should be opting for bags that fall below my waist or on my hips, thus it means I need a longer strap.

I want to own this type of bag and I actually already bought one online from Caleigh Madison. I expect to receive it sometime next week. I got the eggplant color one. :)

4. Red flats

I am actually torn between red flats and black flats. Or, it could be red flats and nude flats... I don't know. I only want to have one though because two would be excessive. I guess the verdict lies upon my sister's insistence...

5. Investing

I just can't end a year peacefully without doing even one single right thing for my finances. Even if it means adding a mere Php1000 on my savings. I am a person full of worries. But then again I'm a Taurean. It means my life long goal is to be secure financially. I am anxious to get this one done.

Review: Human Heart Nature Body Butter in Goat's Milk, Cocoa and Mango

A few weeks back, I bought some Human Heart Nature goodies online, one of which is the HHN body butter in goat's milk, cocoa, and mango. This is my quick review of it.

I got enticed on buying HHN body butter because I came across some great reviews online. I was also in love with the fact that HHN uses only natural ingredients, particularly some awesomely known natural moisturizers in their body butters.

Inspecting the contents of this body butter, I was immediately drawn to its intoxicating mango scent. I promise you it simply smells like real mango that you'd be tempted to eat it! I'm salivating every time I smell this body butter even until now. It is that realistically mango. However, the real issue here is- how does it fare on the skin?

Here's what I can say about this product:

Pros:

It smells as real as 'sweet' mango you'd almost want to eat it.
It's so thick and fluffy like a mousse consistency. (It only adds to its decadence)
Does not feel like slick and grease on the skin unlike the usual body butters.

Cons:

It does not absorb well on the skin.
It is not that moisturizing. My skin showed some dry patches proof that this product does not work so well.
I had to use another lotion first to ensure my skin is completely moisturized before I top it with this body butter. (That's added expenses)

I was really saddened by the fact that it does not work well on my skin. But I'm giving it benefit of the doubt and pointing blame on my skin type. Maybe it works on others well. Maybe it'll work great on you. :)

I only wish that this review helps. :)

Haul: XOXO Rose Gold Watch!

So last week, I was browsing through Ebay and I came across this really pretty watch from XOXO.

It's just sooo pretty that I couldn't take my mind off it. And so I decided to just go ahead and buy it. :) It arrived after two days...

I am in love with it!!! :) The rose gold color just really appealed to me. I am not a watch person and never was. I rely on my cellphone for the time. But I just simply had to have this pretty watch. :)

Another thing I am loving this week, my Christmas Nails, which blogged about here! :))) Red makes me giddy, oh yeah. :)

These treats are just wonderful and made me happy. I forgot I had back pains for a while. :)

NOTD: My Christmas Nails!

Yey guys!

It may be too early to post anything Christmas-y right now but... err- no, I think it is okay to start posting anything Holidays-related as early as now...! It is November after all. :)))

Here's my new NOTD and I call it My Christmas Nails! Why? Because there's red, green glitters, and golden stars!!! Weeehhh! Haha. Yeah, I'm actually happy for these simple reasons. :)

The colors just bring out the festive mood in me. My nails remind me of a Christmas Tree actually. :)

Haul: Thrifted and Vintage from Multiply!

So, I found this pretty online shop in Multiply called Just Got Lucky Shop. They sell amazing thrifted and vintage items. I got two. One of which is a green floral vintage dress.

And I got this fabulous sequined black skirt! So shiny and pretty! :)

I ordered these items last Wednesday and 24 hours later, I got them ringing at my doorstep! That was incredibly fast. :) And I do remember paying only like Php5.00 for the shipping fee. That's really awesome knowing the fact that we usually had to pay more than Php100.00 for shipping when online shopping. (My digicam's in absentia so I had to settle with my laptop cam.. :/)

So I decided that maybe I should add a weekly poem category for my posts. Aside from beauty and fashion stuff, poems are just as beautiful and worthwhile; don't you think? :)

I lead a mundane life, which is composed mostly of staying inside the house, reading, working, staying inside the house, and an occasional get together with friends. Therefore, what better things I should post about than those I do, read, and well, write.

Random Thoughts: Tea Love Affair

I initially didn't love tea. I hated how it tasted like grass whenever I'd take a sip from dad's cup. But one time, he brought home this fragrant jasmine tea from Vietnam and I just fell in love with it. I would drink it everyday until it ran out. And when it did, I had no choice but to try some other local brands.

I feared that I wouldn't be able to love them as much I did the jasmine tea. But I guess it was a simple case of acquired taste because from then on, I started to appreciate different tastes and scents of different teas.

As of now, I am liking this fusion green tea from Arizona. I love how the ginseng contributes a woody flavor to the green tea. The honey stabilizes any bitter taste in it.

I use Twinnings Green Tea and Mint to make milk tea. It has a refreshing and cool taste. The old school Lipton Green Tea I drink if I want plain old green tea flavor.

FOTN: My Version Of Vampy Halloween Look

This is my interpretation of a Vampy look. - Dark eyeshadow and plum lips.

If I were to attend a Halloween party or any costume soiree, I'd probably wear this, although it is nothing close to scary. This look is more on the vixen side of things.

Attempting to look eerie. :P

I changed the lipstick into a lighter note to 'normalize' the look. You can easily wear this to a party (not costume party- party).

FOTN: Dark Eyes and Red Lips

I often read to never put dark eye makeup and red lips together. But then I see other girls pulling off this combination splendidly. So tonight, I decided to try it for myself.

I used NYX lipstick in Snow White.

I noticed that the key for this combo is to carefully keep the dark eye makeup within bounds. - Not too high up on the lids; just within. It also comes out clean when the edges are softened with a gray metallic color. I also added a metallic light brown color just right above the gray metallic shadow to give depth to the eyes, and also to get that gradient effect.

Oh, and I also couldn't get the lip liner thing right. I used Avon lip liner in Rosebud but I was too afraid to contour well since I have full lips. I fear that if I emphasize the edges, I'd look like I injected collagen into them. :/

Weekend Foodtrip: Mandarin Tea Garden Davao

Over the past few days, my siblings and I spent some time with our aunt who's visiting from Chicago. During one of our meals, we went to Mandarin Tea Garden in Gaisano Mall Davao. This Chinese fast food resto is famed for its cheap and authentic Chinese cuisine.

Weekend Foodtrip: Roadhouse Cafe and FOTD: My Lazy Face

Hey guys!

I am in Davao with my siblings right now for some bonding time. I just wanted to share with you some food pics and my 'lazy face' after.

First, the food pics. We went to Roadhouse Cafe at SM Davao to meet and have lunch with our aunt.

Buttered Chicken

Seafood and Veggies ( I made the name up 'coz I forgot what it's called) :D

This was Bangus/Milkfish wrapped in banana leaves and cooked with lotsa spices.

Beef shank? Beef steak? I forgot what it's called (AGAIN) but it was delish!!!

Thai Iced tea for moi.

Mango crepe for me, again.

Chocolate crepe for my brothers.

Tropical fruit salad for my sister.

Banana split for my brothers, again. :D

Now to my lazy face... I call it lazy face because it is the result when I am too slothful to exert any effort in putting on my makeup. I only use Johnson's baby powder, NYX Peach blush, NYX Louisiana lipstick, NYX eyebrow cake powder in Ash, and Avon Supershock masacara. :)

This get up is light, easily retouched, and simple. Perfect for humid weather and a perfect excuse for someone lazy as me. Hihi. :)

Haul: Metallic Shorts and Hot Pink Shoes!

I bought some items from the recent midnight sale in Gaisano Mall Davao and here are two of the things I got.

Metallic shorts. I got it from Femme and to be honest it was the only pair on sale that fits me so I got it. :D

Hot Pink Shoes. I am never a pink person but my sister forced me to get this pair from Hammerhead. She said I should add color to my outfits. Indeed, I need to liven up my monotonous and dull wardrobe and I am mighty loving these shoes. ♥

Hurrah for honest (and blunt) sisters! :)

Now I only need to shop for colorful clothes, too.

Book Review: Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin

I just finished reading Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin. It is a light, entertaining read and perfect as a quick break from a stressful day, or moment even.

Basically, the story revolves around Rachel, a 30 year old, goody-two-shoes, single lawyer in Manhattan, her domineering and self-centered bestfriend, Darcy and Darcy's hot and sophisticated fiance, Dex.

Here's the skinny: Rachel ends up sleeping with Dex on her 30th birthday party and begins to have a secret affair. The two realized they're in love and maybe the outset stretches way back during their law school years.

On the other hand, Darcy was left in the dark of what's happening between her bestfriend and her fiance and continues on her domineering, selfish, and self-centered ways.

Rachel decides she has had enough of Darcy's roughshod treatment and begins to take a stand for her own happiness, despite the moral implications, and despite meaning hurting the only bestfriend she's got.

My say: I like the story because it's light and entertaining. The writing is superbly simple as well. No migraine-inducing pompous words. The implication of the story, however, is something that deserves contemplation.

Would you really abandon friendship and snake your way through a 'guy'? On an idealistic point of view, the answer is a shiny, splendid, and self-righteous, NO. It simply isn't right to steal someone else's man, more so if he is your bestfriend's fiance.

But then again, when do you fight for your own happiness and give way to other people so they may have theirs despite knowing you would end up miserable and regretful for probably half of forever?

For me, I guess the only thing you need to be certain of is the absoluteness of your feelings. If you snag someone else's man, you better make sure you absolutely and truly LOVE him and that he and you will indeed be happier if you two end up together. If you are gonna hurt, traumatize, and wreck someone, it better be effing worth it!

Because if you only do the stoning-worthy deed just to get even or spite someone then you are an effing evil! And evil deeds WILL get karma.

The book was made into a movie and I sooo love it! It stars Ginnifer Goodwin, Kate Hudson, and Colin Egglesfield (he's hot!). Here's the trailer:

A lot of beauty bloggers have already been raving about Human Heart Nature Sunflower Beauty Oil when I decided to try it for myself.

I am terrible at introductions but here's a quick low down:

Human Heart Nature is a maker of organic skin care products in the Philippines and you can check their website here. Told you I'm terrible. :(

Here is the product:

HHN Sunflower Beauty Oil is meant as skin moisturizer and it contains 100% sunflower oil- nothing more, nothing less. It absorbs quickly on the skin and smells honest-to-goodness pure sunflower oil; no perfumes, no herbal fancy smell, no nothing. :)

There is only one thing I can say about this product, "It's freaking amazing!" Yes, and here's proof.

This is how I look before using HHN Sunflower Beauty Oil. I was badly sunburned, my skin's dry, and my pores are humongous.

After a week of using it, there has been a noticeable difference on my skin tone. My friends said so. :) After one more week or so, here's how I looked:

My pores shrunk, my skin tone became fairer ( I didn't expect it would do that, but it did!), my face looks smooth and clear, and I'm simply splotch-free all over. My facial skin is nowhere near perfect but girl, it looked way better than when I was sunburned. This beauty oil is simply amazing!

I love going out without makeup now because I feel more confident about my face. I mean my facial skin. Or face skin. Whatever.

I mean, why would you hide such smooth skin beneath all that muck, right? It's a breathe of fresh air for my skin, literally.

So, would I recommend this product? Definitely. Absolutely.

One piece of advice though- wear sunscreen on top of that beauty oil because it does not have any sun protection factor. Apply your favorite sunscreen and you're good to go. :)

I hope this review helps... I really, really wish it to work the same way on you. The fact that it is organic is good reason enough but it being effective? Simply incredible!

Weekeend Food Trip: Brunch at Pancake House! :)

I recently spent time with my siblings and we had brunch at Pancake House. They both work in a different city, 3 hours ride from our hometown, so I make sure I get to visit them whenever I have the time. As the eldest, I guess it's an eternal responsibility to make sure everyone's okay.

Ladies, meet Kit Harrington, also known as the bastard Jon Snow in the book A Game of Thrones. ♥ I love the book! I am still in the middle of reading it but I loved him from the moment he was introduced. Ehehe. That sounded foolish.

Furthermore, Kit Harrington was brilliant in HBO series A Game of Thrones. Those kind and soft eyes of his are simply captivating. And the accent. Oh man, how I love the accent. It's frakkin' sexy! It's British. 'Nuff said. ^_^

I wish to see more of this budding actor. He is brilliant and talented. (And sexy and cute).

I am no obsessed fan BUT, when you see someone this adorable, talented, and sexy, you just have to gape, ogle, daydream, and be disappointed because he probably has a girlfriend. Damn.

Finished HP series, Now On To A Song of Ice and Fire

Hello friends! :)

Sorry for the lack of posts recently. I was unfortunately under the weather these past few days and had been jaded for quite a few weeks. All these pressures and responsibilities stressed me out of my wits and I knew I had to take a break. I have regained a bit of strength and will now but I still am, yet again, at a crossroads.

Well, I finally finished all Harry Potter books. Here was my post about why I only decided to read the books now. I bawled during the ending. It added to my depression I believe. It was such a painful and sorrowful moment because I was too attached with the wizarding world, like I know the rest of us are. I thought I'd die in grief when I was reading the last few pages.

But alas, I had to gather myself together and make the better of what I learned from Harry Potter's world. And to help me move on, I decided to read yet another literary series. I bought a set of A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin.

I know this is being made into a HBO series. I would rather have them made into a full length film like Harry Potter though.

I am only a few chapters into the first book, A Game of Thrones, and I can say that it is interesting. I like how it is set in a mystic world and there is again mention of dragons and there is presence of dark creatures lurking abound. As for it being an epic and the best novel yet by far, well, I can't really share this opinion yet. I do give benefit of the doubt to the entire series though. We'll see how it goes as I progress into the next books.

And while I am finishing the series, and poring over the decisions I have to make in my life, I fear that I may have to skip blogging into a few posts this month. I would hate to impose on you lachrymose musings of my life. Hehehe. No really, I would be busy for the next few weeks. :D

Movie Weekend: Cowboys and Aliens

I went to watch Cowboys and Aliens last weekend.

My verdict?

3 stars out of 5.

Why?

For a pliant movie watcher like me, I was easily pleased with the effects- never mind the poor plot, the seemingly stumped background of the characters, and the fact that Indians were never even mentioned in the title.

It should have been Cowboys, Indians, and Aliens. Is it asking for too much for wanting the brave Indians to be on the forefront of the billing, too? They, after all, fought as hard in the thick of things in the movie.

But then again, when there are cowboys, there ought to be Indians. They are not just likely to be mentioned. I have bouts of Indian advocacy sometimes. I love Adam Beach too much.

Olivia Wilde's in the movie, too. She kicked ass!

However, she looked unusually elongated in the film. Lanky is an understatement. Anorexic and disturbed is more like it. She looked weird. But then again, she was not really human in the film. Maybe that explains it.

Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford were there, too, but nah, they fared okay and I don't really want to elaborate on them.

However, I just really have to point out the raggedy aliens. For a looming invasion such as that in the film, how come only a dozen or so came out to fight? Lack of budget perhaps? Or, the creators did not really think it would add realism to the plot? Anywho, them aliens are nasty.

NOTD: Trying On A Red Crackling Nail Polish

I've never been the artistic type. The things I strongly identify with creative people, such as musicians and painters, I dare not copy or get my hands on because I know I would totally look ridiculous and I wouldn't be able to pull it off. I'm talking about fashion, style, and whatnot.

One thing I identify with creative people is experimental and expressive nail art. For instance, crackling nail polish! Yep, I know, this trend is not only for 'creative' people. It's just my interpretation. You know, I say tomato you say toh-mah-tow. :D

So please don't hate me. And lambast me. Peace...

But curiosity got the best of me and I did try my ~~hands~~ nails on a red crackling nail polish.

And...

I liked it!

But...

It still does not feel right for me...

I have a feeling this is the first and last time I'm going to try this trend on.

I'm going back to my usual monochromatic, monotonous, dull, and trite nail colors. :)

Review: Avon Solution Total Radiance Night and Day Creams

Just the other week, two of my aunts vehemently cautioned me about wearing sunscreen and moisturizer if I didn't want to end up like them. They were overreacting really, with bandanas and shawls wrapped cautiously around their heads.

Turns out, they just had a derma session to remove icky sunspots on their faces. That last part was alarming. It's quite perturbing actually and I don't want to end up like them.

I just knew it! Sunscreen wasn't the trend during their time. I wanted to say, " Girl I've been using moisturizer since I was 17...". But I didn't. I can't. I won't. Because that would be rude. Instead, I dashed to the nearest Avon brochure I could find and ordered these ladies. I didn't want to end up like my aunts.

I have read some good reviews about these products so I decided to give them a try. No impressive results has shown yet, maybe I'll see them in my 30's, but I dare say I like how they feel on my face.

With religious use of night and day creams, I hopefully won't be scaring my nieces in the future unlike how my aunts horrified me last week.

Haul: Pacifica Ruby Guava Set and Lola by Marc Jacobs

I got some things in the mail today.

I have a Pacifica Hawaiian Ruby Guava set of body butter, rollerball perfume, and body wash. They smell so- err- ripe. Ruby guava ripe. :)

Also, I got Lola by Marc Jacobs eau de parfum rollerball. :)

I don't dare buy big sizes of perfume online unless I know exactly how they smell. You could always go wrong with that ya know. :)

Here are ze loot. Can't wait to try the Pacifica set tonight. I wonder how my entire household would react to my very fruitily sweet and ripe smell. Hah! Oh, and I invented fruitily. :D

Review: Mary Kay Signature Downtown Dazzle Collection

May I just get you sidetracked for a moment:

My camera's working again!

I could almost believe it's a miracle because I didn't do anything to it at all but I'm just glad I didn't have to spend a single cent on it anymore. Now that is some legit relief. Phew!

I was supposed to take it to the service center but lo and behold, the shutter was suddenly back in place and I dunno how it happened. I guess squishing it in my bag and leaving it alone for two weeks did it some good.

Now to the real post:

Anyway, my aunt gave me this pink and silvery of a box called Signature Downtown Dazzle Collection by Mary Kay. I never tried anything from this line before...

Weekend Event: A Friend's Wedding and the Bouquet!

Today was a fun day!

I attended a friend's wedding and a lot of interesting things happened. And by interesting, I mean both good and bad...

1. I over-plucked my eyebrows and my eye makeup was just WRONG. Eeeeep! Of all the times I have to make a makeup blunder, WHY NOW??? I don't even want to see the pictures. Ugh!

2. I was tasked to sing the Responsorial Psalm but didn't have any practice. I went over the piece 15 minutes before the ceremony and feared that I'd mess it up or go out of tune. I did it just fine. They loved it! Whew. Thanks be to God. :)

3. I caught the bouquet!!! Wow, that was a first for me. And BEST, my crush caught the garter!!! Eeeeehhhh!!! Lucky day, lucky day.♥

4. My friends egged me to join in the bouquet catching anyway. Like I'm freaking desperate to catch it because then it would mean I'll be marrying next??? Geez guys, no need to remind me that I need to get married ASAP. I'm only 27!

5. As my crush was pulling the garter up my leg, the MC said, "We need a larger garter over here..." F&^%$*&#@@&!!!!!

a. YES, he just blatantly announced that I am overweight.
b. YES, he just embarrassed me in front of my crush! WHAT THE FUCK, kind sir?!

I looked up at him in bewilderment ready to pounce an accusing look, but, he was quite amused and was kidding. Still, read a and b. Thank you very much.

6. I had a fun time with my crush until the evening. And, he asked to take me home...♥♥♥

Have you watched Captain America: The First Avenger yet?

I have. And Chris Evans is super handsome!!!

Haha. That and entertaining are probably the only things I can say about the film. :)

Some of my friends didn't like it, especially those comics-obsessed friends of mine. I'm no fan of comic books honestly. I'll just watch whatever catches my fancy, be it from a comic book or not. And this time, it's Chris Evans. I have always been a supporter of him since Not Another Teen movie. He's a good actor. I just don't think he'll ever be an Oscar winner. He's the Tom Cruise type.

Also, today-- err-- tonight, I took my cousin to dinner at Dimsum. Again, pictures from the Internet...

It got me a bit sad to think I couldn't take pics of what we ordered. But anyhow, we had:

Weekend Trip: Butuan Museums!

On the weekend I was in Butuan, our host brought us to wonderful museums and may I tell you that it was such an enlightening experience.

Basically, we learned that before the Spaniards landed on Philippine shores and took claim of the archipelago, the Filipinos already have a beautifully striving culture and economy. In those museums, we saw artifacts that prove of this wonderful history.

I have never been more prouder to be a Filipino. I love my culture and our history! I do hate those invaders though. Really.

National Museum: Balangay Shrine

The first museum we went to was the Balangay Shrine. Balangay is a wooden vessel used by the natives of Southern Philippines. It is where the Barangay was named after, the smallest unit of government of my country.

This balangay was discovered a mere one meter deep off the ground and was carbon dated to 324 AD. I actually forgot the exact date but it's definitely 300-ish AD. I know I'm pretty close. Meh. Haha!

You can see some holes in it and it's simply ingenious how people of those times manage to screw a perfectly round puncture on that hardwood.

This is the spot where they found the balangay and other artifacts. The lot was now donated to the government.

Coffins!

They bury their dead wonderfully like any other civilized peoples. Unlike what those f$%^# invaders tried to tell the world otherwise.

These skulls were found on those coffins and they are believed to be of royalty.

The giveaway, the flattened foreheads. Royalties then were believed to be intentionally deformed this way from childhood. It didn't affect their brains experts say.

I don't know if you could spot the green marks on the map but those were the areas where balangays were excavated. Those areas are believed to have been the point of trade and commerce of ancient Mindanao.

He let us hold this ancient wooden plate.

The next day, our host led us to another museum.

In here, we were able to see loads of artifacts from ancient Mindanao but unfortunately we weren't allowed to take pictures.

What we saw basically were tools and other household utensils that dated from the stone age to the pre-Spanish times. There was a lot of them I tell you and they are all amazing!

Here is a replica of the balangay.

Butuan claims that the first mass was held not in Limasawa but in Masao in Butuan. All landmarks point to it and none can ever be traced in Cebu. Also, they hold a very essential piece of proof that backs their claim to be true- a ship logbook. Cebu doesn't have it they say.

We went to Barangay Masao, a coastal community, and there stood a shrine portraying the first Spaniards to reach the shores of the place.

It was a very windy afternoon and the waves were monstrously prowling on the shore.

And here, here is where I freaking dropped my uncle's camera.

We spent 25 minutes wading and splashing through the strong high tides looking for it.

Alas, we found it and we were able to save the memory card, thus the pictures I was able to show you on this post. As for the camera, I need to let it dry for a good two weeks before I bring it for repair. Hay naku.

I was very happy that I was able to visit these museums. It awoken in me a profound sense of nationalism and I was prouder than ever to be a Filipino. Naks! Haha.

My Harry Potter Books!♥

I still haven't brought my camera for repair so as much as I want to share pics on this blog, I can't. :(

However, I did manage to find pictures online so I hope they'll do for a while...

Better Late Than Never...

Finally, I have procured a complete set of Harry Potter books after a decade of being a fan of the story. I decided a few years back that I would only buy the book after I finished watching the movie (is it weird?). This is because I didn't want to be prejudiced on the films because I'll have expectations and compare them to the books.

It was a struggle against my sister because she'd tease me and attempt to spoil the mystery by bragging about what happened in the book. Hahaha! Wow, imagine I was able to hold off for ten years!

And at last, the last of the films has been released and I am now free to immerse myself in the literary magical world of Rowling. I couldn't be more happier about a fiction! Hehe.

I am now on to the third book. Mind you I'll re-read and re-read them all over again for sure. :)

Weekend Trip: From Butuan and Back...

Lately, I have been traveling a lot and I was very grateful for the chance. And this weekend, I went to Butuan and it's a nine hour drive from my province.

I am so glad to be back home and settle on my own bed and sheets. Ahhh... The feeling of comfort and familiarity they bring...

While on the road, my companions are my Harry Potter books, water, my laptop (I was working whenever I could even on the road), and well, my family.

In the following posts, I hope to share with you what we did in Butuan. We went to museums, which enriched me with fantastic facts about our pre-Spanish ancestors and how we had an awesome culture even way back then, and that's waaaay better than what those insolent invaders etched in our brains; ate seafood, slept, spent time at cafes to work, and more.

A not so funny mishap also occurred while I was there and will tell more about it soon. It only involves me being a complete dimwit and indolent and my uncle's lovely camera. I still shudder with spitting for myself whenever I remember that incident. Ugh.

Now that I am home, I dream of a derma and to replenish my stuff with sunblock and my other skin care needs. I simply used up all I had during my recent trips.

Weekend Food Trip: RAKU for Airport Food

It's never easy traveling for 9 hours. You just never get used to it.

We left Isabela by 8pm and by 5am, we were in Manila.

We headed straight to the airport all feeling tired, sleepy, hungry, and disgruntled. Lounging in the waiting area, I fell asleep with my shades on and mouth open. I was dead tired.

My uncle said passersby sniggered at the ridiculous sight of me. He gave them a deadly look. Expect my uncle to be on my side no matter what the circumstance. In fourth grade, he went to my school to confront sixth grader girls because I went home crying over their bullying me over a boy.

But anyway, here- my sister was obviously floating in space...

I suggested for us to have Japanese food because I was salivating for a steaming hot ramen at that moment.

My brothers chose Gyudon. They always do whenever we have Japanese- er- food.

Meanwhile, it's always Katsudon for my sister.

Butter Corn Ramer for me because I couldn't take another MEAT!

Lolo and uncle had Shoyu Ramen.

In all my experience of eating airport food, I have yet to sample something delectable. Even the usual fast food meals taste funny. No idea as to why.

The blurry pictures remind me that I BROKE MY CAMERA!!! I'm a friggin' dolt. I dropped it during the reunion.. :( Now I have no camera to take pictures with...

Vacation Time: My AWESOME Time In Isabela!!!

Wow, long time no update. Haha!

I really took my time on my vacation, huh?

But I'm back now and I just wanted to share with you how wonderful a time I had with my mother's side of the family in Isabela. It was just beyond splendid!

Well actually, our vacation could be summarized into EATING, SWIMMING in the river, MEETING family and other relatives, TAKING A TRIP to nearby provinces and towns, RELAXING, SLEEPING, EATING, and it's the same thing every single day. See how absolutely fun was that???

I took LOTS of pictures but I can only share a few with you since you'll probably get bored with them anyway. Haha.

I ate A LOT during this vacation and now I'm struggling to lose the weight off.

Nevertheless, the food, which was mainly goat, pig, fresh water fish, and veggies were heavenly!

We went to two reunions, my grandma's and grandpa's sides.

Other relatives hosted parties as well.

I had a lot of fantastic memories from this vacation. I never wanted to go home but I miss my dad and our home though. Our family in Isabela made us feel that we will always have a home there. They're all genuinely nice and generous. My uncle said that's really how our family is in there. Everyone's loved by everyone like a true part of the family. I experienced it first hand. :)

I sure wish to have another vacation there. Hopefully in the coming years soon.

I miss the LEGIT pakbet already... Sigh... *stomach growling*
